Michael R. Bloomberg
Michael R. Bloomberg, Founder, Bloomberg Philanthropies & Bloomberg L.P.
Mike Bloomberg is an entrepreneur and three-term mayor of New York City whose innovations in business, government, and philanthropy have made him a pioneering leader on critical global issues. He was elected mayor just weeks after the attacks of September 11, 2001, and led the city’s resurgence. He spearheaded the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan, turned around a failing school system, cut carbon emissions, increased New Yorkers’ life expectancy by three years, and led the city to record job growth.
After leaving city hall, he resumed leadership of Bloomberg L.P. and expanded his philanthropic work. He has given away $17.4 billion through Bloomberg Philanthropies, which works to save and improve lives through its core focus areas – public health, education, the environment, government innovation, and the arts – as well as a series of special founder’s projects and a pro-bono city consulting group called Bloomberg Associates.
Bloomberg also serves as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions, and as WHO Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries.
He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School.
